How Do I Raise Kids and Build a Photography Business, Too? | Your Photographer Mom: Episode 021

How Do I Raise My Kids and Build a Photography Business, Too?

In this week’s Your Photographer Mom podcast, we’re talking about my most requested topic: balancing motherhood with building a photography business. While my experience is mainly with photography, this episode’s a good one for all the working moms building up their creative businesses!

Little Background For You! I’ve been a mom since the summer of 2010 (counting pregnancy? That would be the fall of 2009!), shooting casually since 2006, and shooting nonstop since 2011. I’ve done everything – weddings, seniors, families, workshops, stock photography, product photography – and what I know about being a work at home mom is this: Every day is different! So excited to share my thoughts on this topic with y’all!

This Week, We’ll Hit The Following Topics!

There’s No Such Thing As Balance

Mom Hat vs Work Hat

Finding Slices of Time

Using Timers

Identifying Things to Outsource

Communication When Schedules are Tight

Want To Know This Episode in One Quote? Wonderful!

When you’re raising a family, there is no one right way to do anything. We are all figuring it out. And as a mom with a lot going on? I get it! Sometimes, something has to give… I started shooting heavily when my oldest was six months old. Thirteen years and two more kids later, there’s been a lot of growing pains to what works with our family. Keep in mind that this is not really parenting advice – it’s about ways to balance your business with your family, too! Super excited to share my thoughts with you!” – Your Photographer Mom, Episode 021

Also, y’all! This is a hard topic without a clear cut answer. But my best answer? It’s this: There’s no one right way to do anything.

And as a mom? That goes for parenting – every kid + every family is different – and for growing a business as your children grow up, too. If you’re here, though, I think your heart is already in the absolute best place! Running a business with kids is not for the faint of heart but it’s also a way to carve out your own flexibility and schedule in a way that’s totally up to you. And when your kids are young? That’s totally invaluable! I’ve loved building my business right alongside my family more than words can say and wouldn’t trade it for the world!
