How I Shot This Volume Five | A Simple + Sweet Wedding Photo at Fairlane Station

Hey Friends + Photography Fam! I am currently elbow deep in my Click Photo School editing course The Hue of You (rad name, right?!) and it is keeping your girl super busy. This week is one of my craziest weeks of fall – just between tomorrow and Thursday I’ve got over twelve hours of shooting coming my way! – and I am so, so happy to be shooting again. It’s the best!

But right now? I wanted to pop in and give y’all a little photography tutorial! Jump below to read how I shot this photograph!

With wedding photography, it’s really easy to focus on big moments – first looks and first kisses and epic portraits – but the in-between moments are often my favorite. From the moment I took this photograph of Elizabeth getting into her wedding dress at Fairlane Station, I loved it immediately. The light! The veil over her shoulder! The hands! The tiniest bit of her grandmother’s face! It’s my jam.

Here’s how I shot it! Fairlane Station is a beautiful wedding venue in Springdale, Arkansas. When their doors and windows are shut, the venue is moody and magical. Then, when the doors + windows are open, light spills everywhere! For this photograph, I had Elizabeth stand with an open door to her left and two half opened windows in front of her. I made sure to put her in a spot where light flowed over shoulders, exposed my camera for her grandmother’s hands, and shot this sweet little moment.

I’m all about using available light on wedding days – it captures the mood of the day so well! – and this photograph is, hands down, one of my favorite getting ready photographs ever. Look at how the shadows and light dance across this photograph! It’s the sweetest!

You can see more of Elizabeth and Marcus’ Arkansas wedding here and here! Just be warned: It’s really freaking cute.
