Alison at Loose Park | A Rose Garden Bridal Session

A few weeks ago, I fell asleep browsing ASOS and, when I woke up in the morning, I had a receipt in my email for a lavender dress with pearls on the shoulder and a white dress with a huge bow on the back. I’ve never ordered dresses for styled shoots in my sleep before but I think I should do it more often. Because both dresses? They were GORGEOUS and I’m obsessed with both.

A few days after the dresses arrived on my doorstep, we headed up to Kansas City for my cousin Katy’s wedding. While there, I set up a session to photograph Alison in the Loose Park Rose Garden and our session was basically a dream come true. Alison – an elementary school teacher and model for Voices & – was the perfect model, the rose gardens and trees were the perfect backdrop and, if every styled shoot went as smoothly as this one, I could photograph them every single day of my life. Our session was that good and I’m that in love with the photographs. Look at this one!!

Before we dive too far into Alison’s blog post, I’ve got to brag on my mom for a minute! The day before this shoot, I ran to the grocery store, bought half of the flowers from the floral department, dumped them on my mom’s kitchen table and then asked her to help me make a bouquet. I can make an okay bouquet on my own but my mom is basically a wizard of all things arts and crafts and flowers and, truth be told, I sat next to her and talked myself silly as she threw together this (gorgeous!!) bouquet for my shoot. She’s the best and I love her.

Also, I need Hy-Vee to move to Fayetteville so I can have these roses available at a grocery store near me all the time. The colors in this bouquet – and the tree branches from one of my mom’s trees! – are perfection! I’m twenty-nine years old and still can’t get over how talented my mom is at everything she does and all I want in life is for her to be a wedding planner one day. Ha!

This next photograph is one of my very favorite photographs from our whole session. Alison is stunning and I’m totally in love with the pearls on the shoulder of this dress. ASOS has the best dresses and I’m so glad I bought this one in my sleep, even if I was real confused when I woke up in the morning. Does it count as an impulse buy if you purchase something while sleeping?!

We spent most of our time at Loose Park in the Rose Garden but, towards the end of the session, we headed across the park to the pond. The light here was such a dream, the trees were straight out of a fairy tale, and I’m so glad we had enough time to make it across the park for a few more photographs.  Way to slay this session, Alison! You were the perfect model and I loved working with you!
