What kind of couple are you?
Are you a classic couple? A fun-loving couple? A DIY-loving couple? A laid back couple? A couple that needs to have everything planned out months beforehand?
Just like an individual, a couple has a personality.
I tell this to other photographers all the time and, today, I am telling this to future bride and grooms: Your photographs need to reflect you. Everyone has different tastes. I love chocolate. I love it! My husband? He doesn’t love it. If he were asked to pick between a chocolate candy and a strawberry, he would always pick a strawberry. And me? I would always pick a chocolate bar. So! As a couple? That kind of makes us a chocolate covered strawberry.
Not everyone likes everything and not every couple is going to like every wedding photographer. There are so many different wedding photographers- photographers that prefer to photograph details, photographers that prefer to photograph real moments, photographers that only shoot black and white film, photographers who spend the whole day with their clients, photographers that just show up for the ceremony, photographers that shoot and burn, and photographers that meticulously edit every single photograph. Every photographer is different. I love that! And brides and grooms? Y’all should love it, too!
I’ll put it this way: If I wanted to listen to Miley Cyrus, I would not put on a record by The Weepies. If I couldn’t find a Miley Cyrus album, maybe Katy Perry or Taylor Swift would work for me, but The Weepies definitely would not. And if I were looking to listen to Miley, they really shouldn’t. Sure, both Miley Cyrus and The Weepies record music and you can find them both on iTunes and Spotify but, once you hit play, they are nothing alike. At all.
So! Think about it! In ten years, what do you want to see when you look at your photographs? In twenty-five? Fifty?
Decide what you want to see in your wedding photographs and embrace it! And once you embrace it? Find a photographer who embraces it even harder than you do- your wedding photographs will be magic.
