Senior Photographs in a Hotel Conference Room | Click Away 2016

It’s official: I lived through October!

October is kind of like a prolonged finals week (so finals month?) for photographers. It’s go-go-go all of the time and, about halfway through, you look around, wonder how on Earth you’re ever going to make it through, contemplate staying in bed for a week, and then pull yourself together and officially make coffee your very best friend. Seriously: I’ve drank more coffee since September 15th than I have the rest of the year combined. I’ve also fallen deep into the rabbit hole of The Secret History of the Pink Carnation audiobooks, can belt out the entire two hour long (!!!) soundtrack of Hamilton, and I’ve half watched, like, every single Gilmore Girls episode in less than a week while editing. And honestly? I’m fervently Team Logan even though everyone else is Team Jess. Logan is awesome.

But! Before I became addicted to espionage historical romance books and before I had a firm stance on who Rory Gilmore should be in love with (but after I started listening to Hamilton on repeat!), I was just a naive girl in Seattle teaching a class on Capturing Personality in High School Seniors.

It was so fun!! I mean, look at these cute girls!

In this class, I broke some rules. I made my students sit in a circle like kindergarteners (at least on the first day!), I stole chairs from the Westin’s third floor lobby, I talked like it was going out of style (read: I talked real fast!) and I even made my students photograph one another without telling each other more than their first name. I used timers, I told one of the models “I hate you!” when she told me about a fantastic place she had visited, I fed our models doughnuts, and, from what I could tell, everyone had the most amazing time and Tyrie – a teenage photographer and one of my models for Friday! – gave me the most amazing compliment of my life when told me that she felt like a junior high school student at a Justin Bieber concert.

I mean, can it get more complimentary than that? I’m thinking no!

So! Here are my favorite photographs from my Senior Class at Click Away! A HUGE thank you to all of the students who attended – y’all had the most amazing questions! – and an ENORMOUS thank you to all of these fantastic models. Tyrie and Clare – two of my models for Friday – were actually students that I pulled out of my class to model (ha!) and it was so fun to photograph high school students who have their own photography businesses. These girls have so much ahead of them and it was so fun to photograph them at the start of their careers. Woo!

I love these next photographs of Haley!

It can be a little awkward to be photographed in front of twenty people (especially when those people are just watching; not photographing!) and Haley pulled it off like a boss. I was so grateful that she modeled for both of my classes and so loved w0rking with her. She is awesome!

Also! Azza (my model pictured after Haley!) is the giggliest girl ever and I think I laughed the whole time I photographed her. How cute is she?!
