Happy (Late!) Thanksgiving! | Hello, Holidays!

Yesterday morning, Maxwell drew me (and Henry!) hand turkeys and it was the cutest thing on Earth – mostly because Max is my son (obviously!) but also because he’s just got the most golden heart of anyone I have ever met in my entire life. The boy is sunshine embodied in a five year old and I cannot believe how fast (and awesome!) he is growing up.

The past few days have been CRAZY. On Tuesday, Henry got the biggest splinter I’ve ever seen in my entire life stuck in his foot. Like, I’m calling it a splinter because there’s no other word for it but, basically, it was the size of a stick. So! Because there is no way I am qualified enough to make sure something like that would be pulled out of his foot cleanly, we ended up spending the whole afternoon in the Urgent Care where Henry played with a Lego truck and excitedly talked about getting stitches. He ended up not needing stitches (hooray!) but he did end up kicking so hard at the doctor during a numbing shot that he broke a needle and, also, he was real proud of himself when he got to pick out red medical tape to wrap all over his foot. Homeboy basically danced out of the office that day.

But! Not to be deterred in his quest for stitches! The next night, we went bowling as a family and Henry split his chin by tripping while holding a bowling ball. I didn’t think it was possible to injure yourself with a round object but, for Henry, it was a piece of cake and a hilarious evening of family bowling ended with a long trip to the Urgent Care followed by a long trip to the Emergency Room and, in the end, he came out of the hospital with a glued chin and a sparkle in his super tired eyes. My son is total trouble and I’m real nervous to see what he does next to earn those hoped-for stitches… even though they wouldn’t even be his first set of stitches because he earned those in a fight with a bed frame while I was shooting Roses’s senior session earlier this year.

Anyway! This post was not supposed to be about Henry and his quest for stitches. This post was supposed to be about Thanksgiving! We loved Thanksgiving so much this year – we spent it with my best friend, Lauren, and her wonderful family – and, today, I thought I’d break the mold and write about a few things I’m thankful for. And you guys! Coming up with just a few things is super hard because this year has been one of the most wonderful and crazy and fun and scary and brilliant years of my life. So today? Rather than listing out a list that spans several thousand pages of all the things I’m currently thankful for, all I really want to say is that I am so, so grateful for all of you and all the love and fun that photography has brought into my life this year. For me, photography is a total dream job and, two years after going full time, I’m still pinching myself that I get to hang out with so many rad people and that, at the same time, I still get to be with my kids during the day. It’s a crazy, busy, chaotic and fantastic life and I can’t say thank you enough to all of my amazing clients. I appreciate you so much. Each and every one of you! Happy (late!!) Thanksgiving!!
