Finding Beauty in Unexpected Places | A Click Away Photo Walk

On Saturday, September 13th, I led a photo walk at Click Away.

Two things happened at this photo walk.

One: It became way more of a typical class than a photo walk. I lost my voice at Click Away in an awful, hilarious way: so much so that, in one class, I had to hold a hand-held microphone all the way up to my lips as I spoke and, in another, another speaker-slash-Clickin’ Moms Mentor (Megan Squires!) had to come to my class and repeat things that I said in a louder voice. It was crazy. But on Saturday? My voice was back and ready to go! Naturally, I talked like crazy and we ended up with a walk that was much closer to a shooting demo and instructional class than a photo walk where we took photographs. It was awesome and so much fun.

Two: One of my biggest nightmares came true. When you are a photographer, the absolute last thing you want to do is drop your camera (yeah, this is going there). And during my photo walk? I was holding a camera belonging to one of my students (hi, Lindsay!) and, as I took a step to help another student, Lindsay’s camera strap broke and the camera fell off of my shoulder.

I. Could. Have. Died.

Actually, I’m pretty sure I did die and now I’m remembering it in some post-mortem way but, my soul, the world stopped spinning when Lindsay’s camera hit the ground. Lucky, all that happened to Lindsay’s camera was a scratch on the back and a scratch on the outside of a lens filter, but it’s been nearly two months and my hands are sweaty just thinking about it.

Moral of the story: If you are using a Nikon strap, change it out, like, yesterday.

And so! Photographs from my photo walk! Here they are!

Lissa!!! These are amazing! I love the colors. I’m still kicking myself for not making it to Click Away.
