Austin and Tabitha | Fayetteville Proposal

Here’s the thing.

On the day my husband asked me to marry him, we were sitting outside of our university’s library eating bagel sandwiches and talking about our apartments while I was on my lunch break. I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep living where I was living since my best friend was moving out, so he looked at me, rolled back his shoulders a little and blurted out these words:

“Do you just want to get married?”

I almost choked.

I mean, I knew it was coming and I am all for spontaneity but, really, I almost choked. We’d talked about getting married just a few days before but, when he asked me this smack dab in the middle of the day with students walking all around us, I thought I had misheard him.

“Are you serious?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

“Seriously?”

“Yes.”

“Are you joking right now?” I asked one more time.

“No. Let’s do it. Let’s get married.”

And that’s how my husband proposed to me- on my lunch break in the middle of the day five minutes before he had to go to class. He proposed again, of course, once he had bought me a ring and, while the second story is more romantic and whimsical and downright awesome, the first story is the one I always think of when people ask how we got engaged. We were twenty-two and blissfully in love and, when my friend called when I got off of work, I blurted out “I think I just got engaged!” before I had even talked to my mom about what had happened. That was five years ago.

And last weekend?

I photographed the sweetest proposal. Truthfully, I don’t know how long Tabitha and Austin have been dating but, when Austin asked Tabitha to marry him, I heard her say “Are you serious?” at least five times as he stood before her on one knee. Watching these two become engaged was such a beautiful thing- this was my first proposal- and, every time I heard this gorgeous girl say “Are you serious?” I smiled ear-to-ear because it made me remember exactly how I felt the first time my husband asked me to be his wife. And that feeling? It’s the best feeling.

Congratulations to Tabitha and Austin! You two are SO cute and I had such a good time photographing your proposal story! You two are going to have so much fun being engaged and being married! Really- it is the best.

PS. If you can’t tell, these two were on their way to a Razorback basketball game.
